3 Steps to Help Undo the Damage of Sitting at Your Desk

1. Do an alignment check
Do this at the start of each work day and every time you sit back down at your desk. It only takes a couple of minutes tops.
Untuck your pelvis by sticking your tail out
Drop your ribcage by imagining them sliding down the ‘fire pole’ of your spine
Relax your shoulders and gently roll them into the space behind you.

2. Use the ‘Pomodoro Technique’
Based on the idea that frequent breaks can improve mental agility. Not only will your body thank you, your boss will too when your productivity increases.
Start a timer for 25 minutes. Work until the timer is up. Get up and move for 5 minutes. Repeat.

3. Open up your hips, chest and thoracic spine
Do at least once per hour
Drop into a lunge as far as you can comfortably
Lift the same arm as your forward leg overhead
Lift your chest and open your armpit to the ceiling

Use these 3 steps as a quick way to start reclaiming your body from the confines of the modern work environment. Take the shaping of your body back into your own hands. You can either let the rounding, twisted, misaligned moulding happen to you, or you can deliberately shape your own body.

"Move well. Move often."
